Cathedral Rock near Mount Charleston

Cathedral Rock Hiking Trail

This is the only place in the world you'll have the opportunity to see the Palmer Chipmunk. After our hike we will drive three minutes up the road to have lunch at the Mt. Charleston lodge, a wonderful A-Frame rustic lodge sitting at an elevation of 7,000 feet among the juniper and sweet ponderosa pine of Kyle Canyon.

After lunch, we will drive across a beautiful pass to Lee Canyon, check out the ski area there, drive down to a place where we MAY be able to see wild horses (no guarantee), and then enjoy the beautiful views as we drive back down to the valley.

Challenging Hiking

Experience the Beauty of Cathedral Rock Trail

This beautiful Alpine trail in the Mt. Charleston wilderness begins with ponderosa and white fir, but soon enters a grove of beautiful aspen trees. In the summer, this is a very colorful area, the wildflowers are blooming and the butterflies are fluttering. About halfway up the trail is a beautiful waterfall just off the trail with is a short, old road leading to it.

As the trail goes up out of the canyon toward the back of Cathedral Rock one gets a view of the avalanche chute below. The trail climbs a few short, steep switchbacks before reaching the summit, with a spectacular view of Kyle Canyon.
