Fletcher Canyon near Mount Charleston

Fletcher Canyon Trail Hiking

This hike is a memorable classic in the Mt. Charleston area, the trail and hike are described further below. After the hike we will drive three minutes up the road to have lunch at the Mt. Charleston lodge, an A-Frame rustic lodge sitting at an elevation of 7,000 feet among the juniper and sweet ponderosa pine of Kyle Canyon.

After lunch, we will drive across a beautiful pass to Lee Canyon, check out the ski area there, and then stop at a place where if we are lucky we will see wild horses, then the scenic drive back to town!

Experience the Beauty of the Fletcher Canyon Trail

This unique and beautiful trail in the Mount Charleston area starts with an amazing view of rocky cliffs in the distance. The trail which moves very gradually uphill (i.e. not steep) then crosses a rocky wash and cliffs on both sides begin to close in. The canyon walls become tighter as the trail continues, and the beauty of Fletcher Canyon unfolds.

The trail winds around the wash and between the canyon walls which become higher and steeper. Water may be flowing in parts of the creek bed. A huge boulder, aptly named Obstacle Rock is our destination, and this spot features a seasonal waterfall. Great scenery and a great time are assured.

Fletcher Canyon Hike

The Fletcher Canyon is nestled in the Mt. Charleston Wilderness Area, within forty five minutes’ drive from the Las Vegas Strip, in Lee Canyon. The Fletcher Canyon trail is mainly used for hiking, trail running, bird-watching, and horses.

The hike is a gradual uphill through a pine forest along a mostly dormant-to-dry stream and ends in Fletcher Canyon, a beautiful slot canyon with 200 feet walls, water-polished rocks, and great views of Mummy Mountain. The hike is uphill but relatively easy, and is good for all levels of hikers and families too. The canyon is one of the only places in the world to potentially see the rare and endangered “Palmer’s Chipmunk’.
