Nelson Ghost Town in the Eldorado Canyon
Nelson Nevada, in the Eldorado Canyon, population 37, is a historical ghost town filled with fascinating remnants of the past, unique artifacts, a gift shop, and a mine that dates to the 1800’s. Rich in gold, silver, copper, and lead during that time, Nelson was the site of one of the largest booms the state of Nevada ever had.
The wild west history here was as wild as it gets, as Nelson was one of the most lawless places in the entire west in the late 1800’s and the history is full of bloodshed and corruption... fun, right!?
About Nelson in the Eldorado Canyon
Hike to Bridge Spring Arch, Colorado River stroll, and lunch in Boulder City
(Possible add-on Techatticup Mine Tour at Nelson, not included in price, not guaranteed to happen)
We will attempt to arrange a one hour and ten-minute mine tour for an additional $15 per person, not included in the Breakaway tour price. The mine tour may or may not happen, as the facility requires a minimum of four people on each tour, and we are at the mercy of whether they are running the tour on any given day.
The mine tours start at 9 AM and Noon. Regardless of whether the mine tour happens, this will be an amazing day, because in addition to checking out Nelson, we will drive down to the beautiful banks of the Colorado river and walk around in the area where steamboats used to provide the main mode of transport in and out of this remote area. We will then take a 1.9-mile roundtrip hike (moderate difficulty) to a natural rock arch. After our hike, we will have lunch at the famous Southwest Diner in Boulder City and then head for home, fat and happy!
